Laptop and desktop on a web designer’s desk

Most small businesses in the United States pay between $2,000 and $10,000 for a professionally built website. A landing page can cost a few hundred dollars; an online store with custom design can pass $25,000.

Typical price ranges in the US

  • Single landing page: $500 to $2,000
  • Business site, 5 to 10 pages: $2,000 to $8,000
  • Online store: $5,000 to $25,000
  • Redesign of an existing site: $1,500 to $10,000

Figures are typical ranges in US dollars for independent freelancers and small agencies in the United States, before any sales tax. They are our own estimates, not quotes.

What pushes the price up

Custom design, copywriting, the number of products in a store, booking or membership features, and integrations with tools such as a CRM or QuickBooks. Agencies in large cities charge more than independent freelancers for the same scope.

Costs that come on top in the US

Expect to pay for a domain ($12 to $20 a year), hosting or a platform plan ($15 to $50 a month on Squarespace, Wix or Shopify, or managed WordPress hosting), and card processing at about 2.9% plus 30 cents per sale. Ask whether the site will be built to meet ADA accessibility guidelines, which matters for US businesses.

How to compare quotes fairly

Give every designer the same brief: number of pages, examples of sites you like, and whether you need to sell online. Ask for a line-by-line price, a timeline and what happens after launch. On VouchQuote every quote follows the same structure and at most three professionals reply, so you can compare them side by side. Quotes on VouchQuote are shown in US dollars.

Questions to ask before you hire

  • Will I own the domain, the hosting account and the design files?
  • How many rounds of changes are included?
  • Who writes the text and supplies the photos?
  • What does support cost after launch?
